How To Set Up Your Trezor Wallet

This video provides a step-by-step guide to setting up a Trezor hardware wallet, emphasizing the importance of offline security for cryptocurrency.

Initial Setup

  • Hardware Preparation: Upon unboxing, you will find the device, a cable, and a recovery seed card.
  • Connection and Software: Connect the device to your computer or Android phone using the cable, then navigate to the specified website to download Trezor Suite.
  • Firmware: The device may require a firmware installation, which is a standard procedure for new units.

Security and Backup

  • Recovery Seed: The device generates a 12 or 24-word recovery phrase, which acts as a master backup. This must be written down manually and stored securely; it should never be screenshotted, saved digitally, or stored in cloud services, as this compromises the offline security of the device.
  • PIN Code: Create a strong, non-obvious PIN to secure the device every time it is connected.
  • Backup Verification: Use the built-in test feature in Trezor Suite to verify your recovery phrase while the wallet is empty to ensure it was recorded correctly.

Managing Transactions

  • Security Principle: Transactions are prepared in the software, but they must be physically approved on the hardware device to finalize, protecting against computer hacks.
  • Receiving Funds: When generating a receiving address, always verify it against the one shown on the physical Trezor screen to guard against malware that might alter addresses on your computer.

Mining Integration

  • Mitchell notes that once the wallet is set up, users can share their address via a secure form to receive automated payments from Bitcoin mining machines. Here is the form: Typeform. Support is available at support@epicmining.io if users have further questions.
